For this project, I wanted to create an oversized mushroom and explore the different textures and forms that mushrooms come in. I had a lot of fun making this because I am fascinated by mushrooms and was using references from images I have taken of mushrooms I found on trails. I wanted the sculpture to be overwhelming and feel almost like a giant tree. I painted the papier mache mushroom with shades of blue and purple to make it more intriguing and have it stand out from the painted mushrooms on the page. The painting is a created environment for the sculpture which also explores other forms and textures. I first started with a watery background to give it a more natural and calm feeling and then I started layering with more colors and water to give the unexpected growth and shapes when it dries. I then layered it with different mushrooms and elements of mushrooms around the sculpture so it could be viewed on all sides.
